Sedona is a rural town in North Central Arizona, with a population of about 12,000 people. We are blessed with beautiful natural surroundings and a community richly invested in the arts. Residents have many opportunities for art and creative cultural expression. There is a low crime rate, low unemployment and over 90% of our residents live above the poverty line. Sedona is considered a great place to retire, but there are a noticeable lack of resources for working families and children. Our goal in creating a Communities for All Ages coalition is to make Sedona a great place to live for residents of all ages.
Now completing our second year of work, Our Communities for All Ages team has established a rich history of partnership among a wide range of community organizations and multiple stakeholders. In the past two years we have supported deep community assessment efforts, facilitated by a council of 26 community leaders. These leaders were self-selected from the areas of business, education, non-profit, faith-based communities and the arts. Based on our assessment and community work we have identified the issue--food security and nutrition-- around which our community building for all ages can meaningfully take place. "Feeding the Generations" is our theme.
