Central San Clemente Neighborhood

The Las Palmas neighborhood is located in Central San Clemente and its boundaries are Avenida Buena Vista (West), Avenida Pelayo (North), El Camino Real (East), and Avenida Victoria (South). Many of the Latino residents living in Central San Clemente have lived in their present community for over 40 years. The majority of the residents come from a small village called El Bajio, in the state of Guanajuato, Mexico. Resident’s state that a few men from El Bajio migrated to San Clemente, California and established themselves in Central San Clemente in the late 60’s, than from that point more men followed and with time they began bringing their wives and children.

 

Despite their long history in the city, it has not been until recently, that residents have felt that they have a voice and are able to express their concerns, issues and vision for their community. In the past year residents of all ages have addressed their city officials and have felt heard. Residents have begun building relationships with the local police department, city staff, local organizations, schools and community leaders from the community. This has been a major milestone for the residents and neighborhood. It also has brought people of all ages to come together to work to improve their neighborhood.
